Nottingham City Transformations
“Over the years, the Mellors Group has delivered many activities for the city, in particular the Winter Wonderland at Xmas and the Beach in the summer.
The winter offer has been continually improving with substantially better infrastructure year after year, to the extent that, for the 2018 Winter Wonderland, the BID engaged in a joint TV advertising campaign with the Mellors Group, promoting both the Wonderland and the local businesses, resulting in an increase in footfall in the city.
We were frankly openly critical of the Nottingham Beach in Old Market Square in 2018, feeling that as a concept it had passed its sell by date, resulting in a very much changed offer for Summer 2019, providing something for everyone. The Playa Day Club and Restaurant in particular, with its award winning chef Laurence Henry, is something unique for Nottingham, and as other cities look for ways of attracting people, provides a real point of difference.
We find them good to work with as they are always happy to listen to suggestions, invest, and improve, and importantly they understand that the prosperity of the city is key to everyone’s success.”
Jeff Allen – Chairman, Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID)
Torquay Observation Wheel
“I would like to say how impressed the residents of Torbay were with the Observation Wheel recently erected on Torquay Sea Front. There was a most positive reaction from the public and we have received many letters of congratulations regarding this attraction, and in the short time it was here it became a landmark for all.
Officers have also informed me that both the construction and dismantling of the wheel were carried out in a very professional manner, this work in itself becoming an attraction, with a lot of sightseers watching it being carried out.
The final firework display that you kindly organised was also very well received by the public and it made a fitting finale to your time at Torbay.”
Gordon Oliver – Elected Mayor and Leader of Torbay
“The Southbank Centre worked with the Mellors Group to design and install the Southbank Wonderground and the Starflyer, the design work provided for the marketing material for the event was very professional, appropriate for the event and made to a high quality. The Mellors Group team was a pleasure to work with and we would recommend them to anyone who would want to put on an event like this.”
Julia Sawyer – Project Manager, Southbank Centre
Liverpool One Observation Wheel
“The Mellors Group Ltd were commissioned to supply a sixty metre observation wheel to Liverpool ONE, a regional shopping and leisure destination. The location chosen was a particularly sensitive one as it was on the roof of the retail units that also sit above a multi-storey below-ground car park.
The planning and consultation took place over twelve months prior to the event taking place and every concern was verified by professionals in that field. Mellors Group were extremely efficient and thorough with the planning process, and as a result we are the first retail destination in the UK and possibly Europe to stage such a magnificent attraction on the roof of a building.
All aspects of the safety liaisons, emergency planning procedures, marketing and operations were undertaken by the Mellors Group.
The scheme has only been open for twenty months at a cost of £1 billion to construct. It is owned by the Grosvenor Liverpool Fund who quite rightly scrutinised the whole procedure. The wheel was deemed a huge success for the scheme and amongst other attractions it helped us increase our footfall by 40% year on year.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Mellors Group to install attractions in the most sensitive of sites, and I am hopeful that we will be staging the event for Christmas.”
Chris Bliss – Estate Director, Liverpool One
“Working with Mellors Group Events in delivering the Nottingham Beach event has benefitted the City of Nottingham greatly. Surveys conducted by the City Council have shown public response to the event as overwhelmingly in favour with 93% of visitors rating the event very good or good.
The event also attracted worldwide press and media recognition for the City. Marks & Spencer and Primark reported a 25% increase in footfall in the quarterly City business report and attributed this to the event. The event has been a resounding success and we look forward to continuing to work with the Mellors Group on future events.”
Nigel Hawkins – Head of Culture and Business Management, Nottingham City Council
Cardiff Observation Wheel
“The Mellors Group has provided excellent support for all our requirements, supporting the increase in rise from a 30 metre wheel to a 60 metre wheel, which was helped by their thorough knowledge of the industry. I have found them to be reliable and trustworthy and I am particularly impressed with their focus on Customer care and Service delivery.
Working in partnership, has ensured a smooth operation, which resulted with dual exposure for both the Council and the Mellors Group. An agreed process of marketing, sponsorship, and branding of the wheel, has served to increase the awareness of the event and the City, the purpose for which the wheel was originally required It has also been used as a tool to facilitate income for the City via Sponsorship – name/branding rights etc. Indeed, the wheel has become identified as the ‘Admiral Cardiff Eye’. As with other Cities, due to its prominence, the wheel has become synonymous with the start of the City’s Christmas/Winter period.
We look forward to working once again with the Mellors Group as their professional approach serves to enhance the purpose of their presence in the City.”
Robert Corp – Special Events Manager, Events Team, Cardiff County Council
Chester Winter Wonderland
“We have enjoyed a good working relationship with the Mellors Group over the past few months in the development and management of this event. The indications at this stage are that the event will bring a substantially increased footfall and significant media interest to our city. We would be happy to recommend the Mellors Group and recognise their ability to deliver a successful major city event.”
Stephen Wundke – Chester City Centre Manager
Nottingham Observation Wheel
“There is no doubt the wheel has drawn many local people into the city centre and many people from further afield into Nottingham.
It’s a fantastic landmark attraction that has given the city profile and provided great entertainment. The Wheel has been incorporated successfully into other city events such as St George’s and St Patrick’s Day and our very successful Light Night. We look forward to its return.
The Mellors Group are a very professional company that operate to high standards of quality, customer service and safety. In short, I can recommend both the Mellors Group and their Wheel.”
